The Edmonton Elks ended a two-game losing streak with a 42-12 win over the Toronto Argonauts at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday. Cody Fajardo completed 25 of 31 passes for 301 yards and rushed for 50 yards as Edmonton scored 31 points in the second half. The Elks forced six turnovers and out-gained Toronto 431 yards to 287 in net offence.
The Winnipeg Sea Bears won their first CEBL championship by defeating the Brampton Honey Badgers 98-84 in Winnipeg on Saturday. Xavier Moon was named Finals MVP after scoring 29 points with seven rebounds and six assists. Simon Hildebrandt finished the game with a three-pointer during Target Score Time.
The Bears will open their season against the Regina Rams at Foote Field on September 4. The roster includes team captain Matthew Ljuden on the offensive line, linebacker Matteo Trasolini and quarterback Christian Veilleux. The Bears will play a preseason game against the defending Hardy Cup champion Saskatchewan Huskies on August 27.
